ORGANIZATION
The School to
Career Partnership serves the students of Marin County's
public schools. More than 200
Marin County businesses and
organizations
support School to Career programs by providing internships
and job shadows for students, professional develop
opportunities for educators and by participation on advisory
boards and curriculum development panels. Through their
involvement, employers are taking an active role in
preparing their workforce of tomorrow while providing
meaningful learning opportunities to the students of
today.
The
Partnership's administrative and school-based staff
coordinate School to Career events and programs. School to Career Liaisons serve at
each of the high schools in Marin County. They work closely
with students, administrators, career center staff and
teachers to involve them in School to Career programs and to assist in
utilizing our resources. They also represent the program to
businesses and organizations where their students are placed
in internships, and work to recruit new businesses and
organizations into our programs.
The Marin
County School to Career Partnership is committed to serving
all students in our community. As our work with students in
comprehensive high schools expands, so does our work with
students from alternative education and at-risk
environments. Partnership staff provides services at all of
the alternative education high schools in Marin County
introducing students to the opportunities that can exist for
them if they stay in school and pursue post-secondary
studies.
The School to
Career program is overseen by the Partnership
Board.
The Board, co-chaired by Mary Jane Burke, Marin County
Superintendent of Schools and Klif Knoles, General Manager, Marin
Builders Association, is made up of 35
representatives from education, business, labor, the
non-profit sector, parents and students. The Partnership
receives strong support from chambers of commerce, service
clubs, business associations, and other community based groups. Through their involvement, the School to Career
Partnership is helping to ensure that all students are
better prepared for college, careers, and
life.
