FUNDING SUPPORT

The Marin County School to Career Partnership relies on financial support from the local community to sustain our work.

Funding is provided from the following sources:

  • In 2001, the Partnership received a three-year, $1.2 million grant from the Marin Community Foundation allowing us to continue our work and to help us establish additional funding sources to sustain our program into the future.

  • Annually, the Marin County Office of Education and all Marin County high school districts provide financial support to assist with the staffing costs for the Business and Education Liaisons working in their schools.

  • Over the past several years, the Partnership has successfully competed for state grants supporting career education, workforce development and School to Career activities.

  • Donations are sought from individuals, corporate and business partners and charitable foundations. Annually, each of our Board members provides a personal financial contribution to the Partnership.

donations to the School to Career Transportation Fund

The Marin County School to Career Partnership is seeking funding to support our current operations and to expand our programs in some key areas. These include:

  • Funding to maintain the Business and Education Liaisons who serve at all public high schools. The Partnership Liaisons are essential to our program. They help students determine their potential career interests and connect them to work-based learning opportunities. They serve as a resource to teachers developing new courses and seeking guest speakers or project advisors. Liaisons assist businesses and organizations with the development of internship opportunities and provide support for employers throughout the term of the internship.

  • Expansion of services for alternative education and continuation schools, and for students from at-risk environments. We are committed to making our programs available to all students, whatever their academic, social or economic backgrounds. We are currently working at alternative education schools with students who are part of the juvenile justice system or who have not been successful in the traditional high school setting.

  • Stipends and transportation funds for economically disadvantaged students. Most of the internships offered by the businesses and organizations in our Partnership are unpaid positions. Thus, students who need to work in order to support themselves or help support their families may not be able to participate in our program. In order to make these important educational opportunities available to all students we are seeking funding to pay stipends and provide transportation funds to students in need.

What would your contribution "buy" our Partnership?

Contributions of any amount are welcome and are essential to the continuation of our work. Here are some examples of what donations would mean to our Partnership:

$10,000

Support for Business and Education Liaison services on high school campuses and at employer worksites. Their work is critical to student success and for the providing of resources and support services to teachers.

$5,000

Expansion of services for Alternative Education and Continuation School students, and for students from at-risk environments. This includes one-to-one assistance for students provided by Partnership staff, "coach-assisted" internships, and the expansion of community resources provided to alternative education schools.

$1,000

Sponsorship of student internship stipends for two  economically disadvantaged students. Help students in need who must work to support themselves or their families take part in a potentially life-changing, unpaid internship.

$500

Assistance with costs for transporting groups of students to worksite visits, career fairs and college visits. Bus passes are also provided to individual students in need for bus passes to internship worksites, interviews and job shadows.
